The Dragon Statue
The dragon statue stands in chains. It has always been so. Though many might not question the wisdom of chaining a creature that stand the size of our caretakers hut and has an unfortunate habit of beginning bonfire when bored you must remember you are at Blackwater Manor.
Here restricting freedoms is not taken lightly. We guide. We do not dictate. To clip freedom is only done with much debate and consideration.
Chains have purpose and the weigh heavily upon both the wearer as the barer.
I feel as if I had seen it fly. I have certainly seen many dragons flit, nap, and chase during the day but most are the size and temperament of a large cat.
I am almost certain when I must walk past, though I must admit to doing my best to avoid this path, that at least once I had seen it block the horizon.
I seem to remember the the fire, the eclipse of the sun, the joy radiating off its’ scales as it watches the destruction it had created. I can see under the marble the flash of iridescence my mind tells me is there. Somewhere I am certain it dreams of that day.
I am almost certain once I saw it fly. Though I am older than the mer people’s accord and have never been what can be called a “reliable narrator” I am almost certain especially at noon when the days monotony holds me that once upon a time I had seen the dragon statue fly.
